Benjamin Rappaport
Ben is a rising senior at UNC-Chapel Hill majoring in journalism. This is his second summer with the Heart of Waraba where he is hoping to expand upon his experiences from last year. Ben is currently a reporter at Chapelboro and The Daily Tar Heel in Chapel Hill, North Carolina. He is passionate about the intersections of local community engagement, storytelling and sustainability to make a difference in the world.
Jessica Reid
Jessica is a rising senior at UNC-Chapel Hill in the Environment and Science Communication dual-degree program, so she is finishing her bachelor’s degree in environmental studies while beginning her master’s degree in media and communication. She has also finished minors in public policy and media and journalism. Jessica is the author of the book Planet Now: Effective Strategies for Communicating about the Environment (2020). Writing for Heart of Waraba for the second summer in a row, Jessica is passionate about combining writing and her love for the environment to fight climate change and create a more sustainable planet.
Ryan Morris
Ryan is a rising senior at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, majoring in Environmental Studies and minoring in Spanish. She is thrilled about having the opportunity to join the HoW team this summer, and to provide the world with inspiring accounts of sustainable entrepreneurs from around the globe. Ryan believes that we can bring greater awareness to the urgency of the climate crisis through amplifying their voices in a creative and uplifting way.
Anu Frempong
Anu is a senior at NC State University, majoring in Nutrition Science with a minor in Vocal Music Performance. She is thrilled to be working with the Heart of Waraba team this summer. She looks forward to sharing with readers and listeners the inspiring work of environmental entrepreneurs from around the globe and is excited to use the art of storytelling as a way to promote innovation & environmental sustainability.
Sarah Followill
Sarah is a rising junior at UNC majoring in Environmental Studies and pursuing minors in Urban Planning/GIS and Studio Art. She is particularly interested in pursuing sustainability in architecture and city planning. Sarah is also an athlete on the UNC D1 Fencing Team and spends a fair amount of her time training to compete. She is excited by the opportunities that HoW will provide to learn about the business side of sustainability firsthand from entrepreneurs, and she hopes to use that knowledge in the future as well as sharing it with others through her writing.
Cobi Henry
Cobi is a rising sophomore at UNC majoring in Public Health with a minor in Spanish for the medical professions. She is interested in exploring the ways that sustainability manifests itself around the globe, and how a Triple Bottom Line approach (people, profit, and planet) can structurally improve determinants of public health. She enjoys educational traveling, and has studied terms in Spain and Costa Rica. She is excited to gain insight into the creative methods that international entrepreneurs have developed in order to incorporate sustainability into their business practices.
Tatum Pryor
Tatum is a rising sophomore at UNC majoring in Environmental Studies with projected minors in Food Studies and Business administration. She is passionate about sustainability, particularly that in the agricultural sector. Sustainability for her embodies economic, environmental, and social viability. She is excited by entrepreneurs uplifting communities and the environment alike, and is excited to share their stories as inspirational tales in the midst of climate change discussions centered around doom and gloom.
